Yu Dong: 3rd Prize of 45th EARSeL Young Scientist Award

Yu Dong, a doctoral student in geoinformatics, took third place at the 45th EARSeL Young Scientist Award with her presentation titled “Beyond Static Baselines: Yield Plausibility and Regenerating Forests as Blind Spots in EO-Based EUDR Compliance Workflows.” We extend our warmest congratulations to her. This marks the second conference award she has won this year.

This work investigates how Earth Observation can better support the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). It highlights two potential blind spots in baseline-centred compliance monitoring: forest regrowth occurring outside the mapped 2020 forest baseline, and whether declared production areas can plausibly explain reported commodity volumes. The study proposes additional EO-based screening approaches to support more robust due-diligence and verification workflows.
