PET-Con 2025.2 in Salzburg

Strengthening young researchers

Univ.-Prof. Frank Pallas and his PEPSys (https://pepsys-group.github.io/) Group from University of Salzburg hosted the 14th Privacy Enhancing Techniques Convention (PET-Con) for the first time in Austria.

Going from previous editions in northern Germany (including PET-Con 2025.1 in Dresden, PET-Con 2024 in Berlin, and PET-Con 2023 in Göttingen) to the south, we reached a new target group of more than 20 young researchers and a handful of experienced professionals from research and industry, coming from the entire DACH area.

Following the spirit “for the younger, from the younger”, our doctoral researcher Nicola Leschke organized the informal gathering and moderated the scientific sessions.  The sessions featured short talks and extensive, constructive feedback of up to 45 minutes, with topics ranging from data protection in LLMs over privacy-preserving (biometric) identification to privacy in real-world use-cases like digital payments, medical databases and energy forecasts. As the topics were aligned well, the participants engaged into deep discussions, followed up also during the networking dinner. We all met valuable partners and look forward to future collaborations among the young privacy engineers!

: On the right side of the picture, there is wall with a glass door, hold open through a chair, with a sign “PET-con”. The main part of the picture is a grey terrace, leading to the background picturing the fortress mountain of Salzburg, with a few houses along the hill and the fortress on top. The skye is blue.
