Research Impulses from Japan: Cansu Demir visits EXPO 2025 in Osaka

In April 2025, Cansu Demir, a PhD candidate in Human-Computer Interaction at the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces at the University of Salzburg, travelled to Osaka, Japan. We are proudly announce, that she was one of only seven recipients of the EXPO 2025 Travel Grant, awarded in connection with this year’s World Expo.

As part of her dissertation, Cansu Demir develops and investigates in-vehicle intelligent agents – AI systems designed to actively support drivers by recognizing situations, assisting in decision-making, and communicating with users in real time. Her research focuses on human-centered design to improve road safety and make mobility more inclusive.

“The Expo offered fascinating insights into global developments and emerging technologies. Many of these impressions are now directly shaping my academic work – as well as my startup in AI-based mobility solutions,” says Demir.
